I’ve definitely written about this before. I had a picture book with this verse as a child, and as an adult, this truth continues to resonate and breathe life into me, so here it is again. When times are smooth sailing remember the Lord is in charge, when times are tough, the Lord is still in charge.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
Sometimes I get so overwhelmed by what’s in front of me, my goals for the future, and all the unknowns, that my only option is to run to Christ and remember that He leads me. This truth has been especially more relevant over the past couple of weeks. The scariness of moving to a new city, the intimidation of entering an intensive graduate program and just wanting so bad to be good at it, my Marine away at Officer Candidate School, and the fact that after February he could be moved across the country. There are so many things that are out of my hands, and I’m sure the same may be true for your life too.
The Lord provides.
The Lord restores and rejuvenates.
With the Lord, we shall not fear.
With the Lord “goodness and mercy” will follow us.
These are all truths we want, hands down, but the point to remember is that this is all possible because of Jesus. As much as I would love for my 5-year plan to work out seamlessly, or even my plans for next weekend to go how I envision, I must remember that the Lord is is control and more often than not His plans are far greater than anything I could have possibly imagined. There is nothing we can do on our own to ensure these promises, but with the Lord all things are possible.
